Connected Vehicles
Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems
Elisabeth Uhlemann

Argus Cyber Security is collaborating with Ericsson to provide seamless cybersecurity across vehicle cloud services, fleets, and connected vehicles.

As the number and diversity of connected services that interact with vehicles continue to increase, cyberthreats also evolve and grow.

Recent cyberattacks on vehicles via connected services have led automakers to understand that, for these platforms to be successful, securing vehicles from attacks is paramount to consumer trust and safety.

The collaboration involves integrating Argus Security Operation Center with Ericsson’s Connected Vehicle Cloud Platform. These platforms equip automakers with actionable intelligence from big data analysis across millions of connected vehicles and their cloud services; they help identify the first signs of an attack campaign and mitigate its damage by immunizing the fleet in hours.

Argus’ multilayered cybersecurity solutions embedded in the vehicle provide real-time protection from cyberattacks, including those on remote vehicle commands originating from the cloud, i.e., heating the interior cabin and opening the vehicle door via smartphone applications.

In other news, new regulations have allowed Australian road traffic authorities to employ intelligent transport systems (ITSs) that enable vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P), or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. Following industry consultation, the Australian Communications and Media Authority introduced “Radiocommunications (ITS) Class License 2017,” supporting the use of complying wireless technologies and devices.

These regulations have allowed the 5.9-GHz band to be used for ITS in Australia and are consistent with the ITS arrangements in major vehicle markets in both the United States and the European Union. Harmonizing Australia’s ITS arrangements with global developments means Australian motorists will be more likely to enjoy connected vehicles as they become available.
