It is a great honor for me to join the Editorial Board of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine as Editor-in-Chief. I would like to thank Vice President—Publications Weihua Zhuang, and VTS President Alex Wyglinski, for their trust and confidence in me to lead the IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine for the next two years.
I thank former VTM EiC Klaus David for the great job he did during his term, and for his continuous support and encouragement during the transition. Klaus has guided the IEEE VT Magazine to an outstanding position in technical publications.
The last edition of the Journal Citation Reports showed that the IEEE VT Magazine has obtained a 6.038 impact factor. The magazine was ranked 1st (of 35) in Transportation Science and Technology, 6th (of 87) in Telecommunications Engineering, and 18th (of 260) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
These exceptional performance levels will be difficult to match, but it motivates us, and will guide my work during my term. Thank you to Klaus and all his Editorial Board!
As Editor-in-Chief, my objectives are quality, value and efficiency. We will work tirelessly to ensure high quality for all published material, from our Editors’ superb columns to the special issues we prepare, and the technical papers we publish in our fields of interest.
Ensuring that these materials are valuable to our readers and the technical community at large will also be a key objective of this Editorial Board. And last but not least, maintaining high efficiency levels in our operations for smooth, effective and efficient communications and interaction with the editorial staff, our volunteers and authors.
We will be working on new features of the Magazine that we hope will interest you, increasing the quality and value of the Magazine. We will announce them as they materialize through this editorial column and our traditional VTS communication channels, so stay tuned!
In short, joining the Editorial Board of the IEEE VT Magazine is like coming home. I got involved with the Magazine back in 2000 when it was a newsletter of just a few pages. I was doing my PhD at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow when James Irvine recruited me to write a report on the state of the mobile and wireless industry.
Everybody that has done a PhD knows how ‘consuming’ it can be, and sometimes you need extra activities to refresh your mind. One of mine at the time was reading newspapers and magazines to know what was happening in the mobile and wireless industry (might not seem that refreshing when I was doing a PhD in mobile communications, but it was!)
I used to discuss them with colleagues at Strathclyde, and James thought that the information could also be of interest to the readers of the VT newsletter and got me involved with the editorial team. I was honored to be part of the editorial team led by James, which transformed the newsletter into a magazine, and then brought the magazine to the major Indexing lists.
Starting something new is not an easy task, but it was a wonderful experience with good memories. It has been a long time since I started volunteering with VTS and the VT Magazine, and I am very proud of its high quality and international reputation.
We achieve these high standards as a team effort, and the team includes you—our readers, volunteers and authors. So please don’t hesitate to get in touch to share your ideas about how we can continue improving the Magazine. You can contact me at j.gozalvez@umh.es. I look forward to your feedback and ideas! |
