IEEE VTS has recently created the Ad Hoc Committee on Electric Railway Systems. This is a call for participation in the activities of the Committee to all IEEE VTS members interested in this topic.
The committee is chaired by Mr. Jianghua Feng from CRRC Zhuzhou Institute. Those interested in participating in this committee can contact Vice-Chair Prof. Pablo Arboleya from the University of Oviedo.
Objective and Overview
The objective of this committee is to support and grow an electric railways system community within IEEE and enable a range of different activities to help its members learn about, explore, and expand the current state of the art of this rapidly emerging technology.
Examples of these activities include the organizing of technical conferences, the creation of standards, and the formation of journal publications. In order to foster the growth of this community, one of the first activities is to organize a conference that focuses specifically on electric railway systems. A short description is given below. We hope that by hosting this conference, we can grow this IEEE community in terms of members and enable a broader range of activities and objectives.
The Ad Hoc Committee covers the technology and systems relating to high speed rail, urban transit, heavy haul freight, metro, fixed guideway transit, and electric railway systems, including the components and systems used in both automated and non-automated systems. The committee will cover topics such as:
- Communications, Train Control, Cybersecurity, Simulation and modeling
- Power Systems (Traction Power and Distribution, Overhead Contact Systems, and Other Feeding Systems)
- System Safety, Reliability, Environmental and System Requirements
Currently there is no IEEE technical community that is focused on high speed rail and railway systems and future looking technologies for railways. The formation of this community will benefit the technical community as a whole by bringing experts to the IEEE technical activities platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and networking. This committee’s focus of future technologies will attract new experts to the VTS community allowing VTS to grow its community.
Electric Railway Systems Conference Scope
The topics for conference should consider for technologies and systems for high speed rail, urban transit, heavy haul freight, metro, fixed guideway transit, and electric railway systems such as:
- Communications, Train Control, Cybersecurity, Simulation and modeling
- Power Systems (Traction Power and Distribution, Overhead Contact Systems, and Other Feeding Systems)
- System Safety, Reliability, Environmental and System Requirements
