The 2018 IEEE 87th Vehicular Technology Conference will be held 3–6 June 2018 in Porto, Portugal. This semi-annual flagship conference of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society will convene individuals from industry, government, and academia to discuss and exchange ideas in the fields of wireless, mobile, and vehicular technology.
The conference leadership team is comprised of General Chair J. R. Cruz, who is Director of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Oklahoma and IEEE VTS VP—Conferences; Honorary Chair Augusto Albuquerque of Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Portugal; and Technical Program Chair Rui Dinis of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Instituto de Telecomunicações, Portugal.
VTC2018-Spring will feature technical sessions with approximately 428 peer-reviewed high-quality technical papers, 12 cutting-edge workshops, informative tutorials, as well as world-class keynotes and invited speakers. Invited speakers include Joao Barros, Founder and CEO of Veniam, an award winning wireless engineer who has turned a start-up company into a multi-continental corporation.
Reinaldo Valenzuela, Director of Communications Theory Research, Bell Labs, Alcatel-Lucent will be one of the plenary speakers. He is an IEEE Fellow who has published more than 190 papers and 44 patents and has been cited in Google Scholars over 24,000 times. In addition, Vladimiro Mota Cardoso Feliz, Director of ITC and expert in Smart Cities for CEiiA, will join us as a keynote speaker and share his knowledge on Smart Cities.

As part of an industry-focused program, the conference will feature top level executives from major global companies sharing their perspectives on the industry and new hi-tech developments that are being applied in their industry segment. Central to their discussions will be the integration of 5G technology, including applications of autonomous, connected and electric vehicles, and important evolutionary advances in Smart Cities and IoT.
VTC2018-Spring provides attendees the opportunity to network with some of the world’s most distinguished technology leaders and world-renowned researchers from industry, government, and academia.
As the most important city in the heavily industrialized northwest region of Portugal, many of the largest Portuguese corporations from diverse economic sectors reside in Porto, making it an ideal location to host VTC2018-Spring. Porto not only attracts new technology start-ups, but also attracts travel enthusiasts.
The city was declared a World Heritage site in 1996 and designated the “European Capital of Culture” in 2001 by the European Union, stating that the improvement of infrastructure accomplished while protecting its historical legacy made the city exceptional.
Porto was also elected best European destination in 2012, 2014 and then again in 2017. VTC2018-Spring will take place at the beginning of tourist season in Porto, thus offering an exciting opportunity to explore one of the great cities of Europe.
