Welcome
to the December 2017 issue of VTS Mobile World—your last issue in 2017 for the IEEE
Vehicular Technology Society newsletter. To herald this occasion, the outgoing VTS
President, Javier Gozálves, will outline some of the great achievements during
his two-year term. Javier will also
report on the recent IEEE CDMA Milestone event held at Qualcomm site. Fabrice
Labeau, our Vice President—Membership, will give a detailed report on his
portfolio and the state of VTS membership in 2017. VTS
Secretary James Irvine will report on the last VTS Board of Governors meeting
held during VTC2017-Fall in Toronto in September and also on the results of the
Society’s 2017 annual elections and the membership of Board of Governors in
2018.
This
issue of VTS Mobile World include informative technical reports on motor
vehicles, connected vehicles, mobile radio, and transportation systems—all
major activities of the Society.
It
has been a very busy and productive year for the Society. We here at VTS would
like to remind you to renew your VTS membership before the end of year. It is
also the time for sending out the call for nominations for IEEE Fellow Class of

up his successful two-year term at the end of this year. On this occasion,
Javier has provided our membership with a thorough state-of-society analysis, and

Qualcomm receives IEEE Milestone for its
pioneering work in CDMA. Their digital cellular radio
system based upon CDMA significantly increased capacity, improved
service quality, and extended battery life; and formed the basis for the IS-95
second-generation cellular standard and major 3G mobile broadband
