IEEE VTS NSW Chapter Report
Abbas Jamalipour, IEEE NSW VTS Chapter Chair

The IEEE NSW VTS Chapter was created in mid-2016. Its membership has increased to 44 this year. In continuation to its service to local members, the Chapter has organized a technical event with a full range of talks from industry and academic in the TechLab located at Botany, in Sydney, Australia.

TechLab has brand new facilities for research in electric vehicles, vehicular combustion, acoustics, robotics, among other related projects. The Chapter applied for funding in the start of 2019 to create activities for IEEE and IEEE VTS members in the area and to boost its membership.

This grant was awarded by the VT Society and enabled the NSW Chapter to organize this event with the support of the IEEE NSW Section. We therefore thank the generous support of the Society to our local chapter.

The one-day event attracted 46 registrants, and these attendees enjoyed technical talks on different topics from companies including Mathworks and National Instruments, and also from local universities. The event was opened by IEEE VTS NSW Chapter Chair Abbas Jamalipour, followed by talks on:

  • Smart Transport in Macquarie Park (Sam Khadivizand, Macquarie University)
  • A Platform Approach to Emerging Wireless Communication Technologies: Design – Prototyping – Test (National Instruments)
  • Studying and Teaching Dynamic Systems with MATLAB and Simulink (Bradley Horton, Mathworks)
  • Automotive Megatrends: A Look to the Future with Model-Based Design (Alex Shin, Mathworks)
  • Wireless Systems for DARPA Subterranean Robotics Challenge (Dr Shenghong Li, CSIRO)
  • Innovative Powertrain Technologies (Dr. Paul Walker, UTS)
  • MHEV Mazda-Miata Powertrain Development using Model-Based Design process (Mohamed Awadallah, UTS)

VTS NSW Chapter officers Rajan Shankaran (Treasurer), Wei Ni (Vice Chair), Abbas Jamalipour (Chair), and Mohamed Awadallah (Membership).

VTS NSW Chapter Chair Abbas Jamalipour welcomes attendees and thanks them and the speakers for their participation.

Bradley Horton of Mathworks delivers his talk on Studying and Teaching Dynamic Systems with MATLAB and Simulink.

The day's activities concluded with an informative tour of the TechLab facilities.
