Mobile Network Sensing Use Cases
Bang Chul Jung

In the 6G era, the three key usage scenarios defined in 5G are expected to evolve into more advanced forms: immersive communication, massive communication, and hyperreliable and low-latency communication. Beyond these, 6G will introduce a new set of usage scenarios, including ubiquitous connectivity, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven communication.

The International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)-2030 framework discussed the sensing capabilities envisioned for 6G, emphasizing the potential to detect not only active devices but also passive objects and their movement. This capability is intended to be an integral part of future communication networks, thereby enabling a wide range of ISAC use cases.
