On 8 May 2019, RKH Qitarat, a joint venture of RATP Dev, Keolis, and the Hamad Group, opened the first section of the Doha Metro to the public in Qatar’s capital city.
The Doha Metro Red Line South opened to the public in preparation for the World Cup soccer tournament in 2022. Initial operation included 13 out of 18 stations of the planned line, which will connect the Al-Wakrah and Lusail stadiums, two venues scheduled to host the World Cup. The 25-mi line will also connect Lusail to the international airport.
The complete Doha Metro will be automated and driverless. It will incorporate three lines (Red, Green, and Gold), 46 mi of track, and 37 stations. Scheduled to be completed by 2020, the metro network is expected to carry 650,000 passengers per day.
