South Africa established a VTS Chapter in September 2018, chaired by Professor Sunil Maharaj from the University of Pretoria. This is the first sub-Saharan VTS Chapter on the African continent.
The objective is to offer the same opportunities to industry, academia, researchers and graduate students in South Africa that VTS offers to all its members worldwide. Their intent is to expand to the entire South African Developing Countries (SADC) Region. The plan to arrange technical sessions and IEEE conferences, and host Distinguished Lecturers and Summer Schools to bring the benefits of VTS to South African members, and also grow its membership.
Recently, a technical talk by Professor Norbert Gronau from University of Postsdam in Germany on “How to prepare workers for Digital Transformation in the 4IR: Experiences from Europe” was hosted in Pretoria. Plans are afoot to host the newly established VTS Wireless Africa Conference (WAC) in South Africa in the latter part of 2019 as well. |
