The conference started on Sunday, 3 June with 11 workshops available for delegates with a wide range of topics such as an array of 5G discussions, cyber security, and communications mobility. Participants looking for a more intensive learning experience, could elect to attend one of the four tutorials offered the same day.
Instruction on traffic awareness and 5G radio access, 5G cellular localization, autonomous networks, and when big data meets intelligent transportation were all available for selection. The next three days were filled with an impressive list of plenary speakers and topics, followed by oral presentations of approximately 290 papers and 70 posters, including highlights of publications in the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology.
A full industry program was also available Monday through Wednesday highlighting issues and advances in 5G, autonomous and connected vehicles, and connected cities within a connected world.
A wide range of companies were involved in the program’s panels including Huawei Technologies, Nokia Bell Labs, Efacec Group, Ericsson, Vodafone, Bosch, Hutchison, InterDigital, Altice Labs, Orange Labs, Deutsche Telekom, Qualcomm, Peugeot, Veniam, Audi, Nissan, CEiiA, imec, TNO IC, Samsung, Toshiba, Cisco, and Silex Inside. The discussions were quite engaging, often leading to productive audience participation.
On Tuesday, conference goers were treated to a visit, with optional cellar tours, of Tres Seculos—a winery in the historic Port wine cellar district of Porto where the spring banquet was held. Additionally, a four-course dinner was served and then guests were entertained by local artists performing the Portuguese traditional music known as Fado. The evening was a relaxing and interesting, cultural and fun experience.
