The objective of IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) is to support the professional development and growth of all of our members around the world.
Through a wide spectrum of services and activities, VTS is committed to providing all of you with opportunities to gain new knowledge, network with other experts, and form new collaborations.
With these tools, we act collectively to advance the current state of the art.
Although we support members at all stages of their careers, I would like to focus on VTS members starting their professional journeys as engineers, scientists, and technologists: The Young Professional or YP.
VTS seeks to support YP members through a variety of services and opportunities. Here are some of the ways in which YP members can benefit from VTS:
Take advantage of our wide range of services and activities
- Attend a VTS-sponsored conference, and engage with colleagues, experts, speakers, and the VTS Board of Governors
- Submit your work to one of our journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology or IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine
- Attend a VTS Distinguished Lecture, and engage with the lecturer afterwards
- Learn from our extensive database of online lectures at the VTS Resource Center (http://resourcecenter.vts.ieee.org/), free for all VTS members
- Compete in a VTS-sponsored technical challenge, such as the Motor Vehicles Challenge
- Attend a VTS summer school on topics such as connected and autonomous vehicles or connected and electric vehicles
Get involved with VTS
- Review papers for our conference and journal publications
- Organize a workshop or tutorial at our conferences (link to conferences page)
- Volunteer for the various open positions within the VTS (link to page), whether it is at your local chapter, an upcoming VTS-sponsored conference, or a VTS board position
- Join the Technical Program Committee of our flagship conference, the Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC), or one of our other major conferences.
- Produce lecture content and other educational materials for the VTS Resource Center
- Chair a session at an upcoming VTS-sponsored conference
- Apply for an early career award or student fellowship
- Join your local VTS chapter or create a chapter if one does not exist nearby (as few as 12 VTS members required)
- Participate in a VTS technical committee, such as those on drones, electric railway systems, and autonomous vehicles (links?)
Remember that VTS is here for your professional development and growth, so please ask us how we can help you and how you can get involved!
In addition to VTS, IEEE also has a YP community (http://yp.ieee.org) that fosters and supports YP members across IEEE. Contact Syed Hassan Ahmed (sh.ahmed@ieee.org), VTS liaison to IEEE YP to learn more about IEEE YP and get involved as a YP member within VTS.
When building a house, it is important to start off with a solid foundation. Let VTS help you construct that foundation on which your career will be built. |
