For starters, let’s
briefly review the state of our journal based on a few widely used and
recognized metrics. The impact factor of the journal—an index provided by
Thomson Reuters’ Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) that measures the
amount of citations received by manuscripts in this journal—has reached a
historic high in 2016. The peak was for both the 2-year and 5-year window, with
an increase in citations, the Eigen factor, and the article influence score.

The 2- and 5-year impact factors show how we
have improved in terms of citations, showing an increase in popularity in
result of higher publication quality. The Eigen factor is a
number used to evaluate the importance of journals, and analyzes not only the
number of citations but also the source. The Article Influence Score is
obtained by dividing the Eigen factor by the amount of published papers,
essentially giving an average importance score per paper.
All these numbers
point to the same conclusion: IEEE TVT has improved in quality, popularity, and
importance year after year, with a particular leap in 2016. Among journals in
telecommunications, TVT is in 7th place for both 2-year impact factor and
5-year impact factor. Furthermore, we are in top quartile for
telecommunications journals in relation to impact factor, 5-year impactor,
Eigen factor and article influence score.
We are currently
ranked 19th on downloads from IEEE Xplore among all periodicals and
publications. These numbers show our value and quality and make us a very
attractive option for authors when it comes publishing, resulting in an
all-time record number of submissions for 2017.

IEEE TVT has entered
a brand-new phase and has increasing importance, which convinced to us to
announce three new special issues for 2018, to cover upcoming areas in
vehicular technology and sustain IEEE TVT as a platform for development of
connected vehicles technologies.
These results are
largely caused by the tremendous contribution from our editorial board and the
qualified reviewers which we are lucky to work with. This experienced team has
managed to keep the turnaround time for first editorial decision, the time
needed for finishing the review process, at a little over 60 days: 2.02 months!
This is a great advancement over previous years, see table below. Our staff is
able to reach faster decisions without a drop-in quality.
The time between
submission and first appeared in IEEE Xplore is 35.2 weeks on average. In order
to improve these metrics, which are so important for our authors, we have
expanded our editorial board both in number of editors and specialized areas,
trying to better address the increasing amount of submissions.
In addition,
submissions are supervised closely by our administration team and area editors;
any papers that experience delays are quickly identified and addressed, with
support from our SWAT team. We strive to maintain a high-quality journal
despite faster review; the acceptance rate of submissions made in 2017 was
30.4% as of February 2018. The administration, the editors and the reviewers
are driven to deliver fast and informative reviews, allowing papers to be
improved and published as soon as possible.
Among all these
contributors, special thanks go to our selected top editors. These
professionals have performed especially well both in quality and timeliness of
their decisions among our over 100 editors. The recipients of 2017 Top Editors
Award are:
- Luigi Alfredo Grieco (Politecnico di Bari, Italy)
- Jiajia Liu (Xidian University, China)
- Zhiguo Ding (Lancaster University, United Kingdom)
Finally, our editors
are lucky to be able to work with excellent reviewers and we must also recognize
their exemplary performance. The recipients of the 2017 Top Reviewers Award
are:
- Lluc Canals
(Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Spain)
- Alessandra Rizzardi
(Università degli Studi dell'Insubria, Italy)
- Nikolaos Ioannis
Miridakis (University of Piraeus, Greece)
We convey our solemn
gratitude not only to the special individuals mentioned above, but to all
editors and reviewers of IEEE TVT, who volunteer their time and effort to
create the journal we have today. |
