IEEE has just formally launched a new 5G Initiative
(http://5g.ieee.org/), which aims to raise awareness in the community in
general of all that IEEE is doing in 5G. VTS is a key society in the
initiative, and VTS volunteers are responsible for the web portal and community development
aspects.
At the core of the Initiative is the IEEE 5G Technical
Community, and all VTS members who are interested in 5G are invited to join,
free of charge. IEEE 5G Technical Community membership includes a newsletter
with details of 5G activities, free access to three key 5G articles on IEEE
Xplore each month, a quarterly 5G Technology Focus e-newsletter with articles
on different application areas, as well as access to educational resources on
the 5G portal.
We are also looking for VTS members to help run the initiative. As with the development and deployment of 5G itself, we have quite a lot we want to do and are moving fast. We are interested in having volunteers work with us to:
- Develop the future roadmap for anticipated paradigm shifts
(evolutionary
and revolutionary)
- Contribute and help run the IEEE 5G Newsletter
- Organize IEEE 5G Summits within VTS application areas
- Engage start-up companies
- Get involved in standardization: VTS has a number of
relevant standards in connected vehicles but more work is needed here
- Identify 5G technical architectures, challenges and
requirements
