Let me start by wishing you all a very happy, healthy and successful new year!
2016 has been a year full of VTS activities, and 2017 promises to follow in its footsteps. We announced in 2016 the launch of the VTS Resource Center, our new multimedia online library. In this issue of VTS Mobile World, we reveal our plan to inform you of new material available on the online platform, which will be updated regularly. In January we offer you new webinars on air-ground channels for UAV and EV battery charging, as well as some of the exciting 5G panels and keynotes that were recorded at VTC2016-Fall (more VTC2016-Fall content to come in future issues).
A new year always requires new projects and goals, and I am happy to inform you that one of them will be the reinstatement of the Daniel E. Noble and the Transportation Electronics Fellowships. These fellowships support graduate-level studies in VTS’ fields of interest. All of us here at VTS and the IEEE Foundation are very excited to have this opportunity to support the efforts of students.
We have been fortunate to recruit a new volunteer, Prof. Nicholas J. Kirsch (University of New Hampshire) to chair the Fellowship and Scholarship Committee and lead these efforts. We are very grateful for his support, and the time he will dedicate to benefit VTS students.
Over the coming months, we will set up the committees and administrative process, and launch the call for candidates, which will be announced through several media, including VTS Mobile World… so stay tuned! In the meantime, you can find a brief description of the two Fellowships in the VTS Awards area.
We all hope that the efforts of VTS volunteers to launch and sustain activities and services meet the needs and expectations of our members. So if you have not yet done so, I strongly encourage you to renew your VTS membership and help us maintain a vibrant VTS community!
