The 83rd IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference
(vtc2016spring.org)
was held in Hilton Nanjing, Nanjing, China, 15—18 May 2016. As the
first-ever VTC held in mainland China in its history of more than six decades, the conference featured 500 presentations over 13
technical tracks. These papers covered the full range of wireless and
vehicular communications technology. For example, reflecting the current
research directions, the LTE track attracted the largest number
of paper submissions, closely followed by the Multiple Antenna
Systems track and the Signal Transmission track.
- Seven popular workshops, covering hot topics such as massive MIMO and communications for high speed railways
- Two plenary sessions, delivered by Dr Wanshi Chen from Qualcomm and Dr Ganghua Yang from Huawei, respectively. Drs Chen and Yang, from different perspectives, shared with a packed audience their thoughts on the possible development steps and enabling technologies for 5G
- Four industry panels, providing industry insights on the progress of areas such as millimeter wave and vehicle-to-vehicle communications. These include an executive plenary forum on connected/autonomous cars, jointly organized by VTS and the WWRF
- Seven well-attended tutorials, given by experts in wireless communications and vehicular networking
VTC2016-Spring attracted about 600 colleagues from all over the world, from Pretoria, London, to New York City. The delegates not only enjoyed the technical program but also the city of Nanjing itself. Being the capital of six dynasties, Nanjing is rich in history and culture, and is one of the most attractive great cities in China. Of course, the Nanjing weather in May did not disappoint either (well, mostly!)
Local support from Southeast University played an instrumental role
in all phases of VTC2016-Spring—from the initial proposal five
years earlier to the event one month ago. Also, VTC2016-Spring would not
be what it was without the generous support of our donors and patrons:
Qualcomm (Diamond), Huawei (Platinum), National Instruments (Gold) and
Ericsson (Silver).
In closing, we thank once more our authors, reviewers, TPC members,
track and workshop chairs, and all organizing committee members. Their
hard work made VTC2016-Spring in Nanjing a great success!
- “This was an outstanding VTC!”
