It is with great regret we report that our friend and colleague, Dennis
Bodson, passed away on 1 July 2016. Dennis, who was 76, was a very active
volunteer who first joined the Executive in 1997 as VP—Mobile Radio.
He was a feature of VTS for 20 years, serving as Executive VP, President,
VP—Conferences, and as Chair of the Constitution and Bylaws
committee, VTS parliamentarian. This past May, he travelled to Nanjing
for VTC2016-Spring, having recently been reappointed VTS Standards Chair.
Dennis was that most valuable resource in a volunteer-driven
organization—someone to whom you could give any problem and be
confident it would be solved. He took responsibility for a number of
major projects within the Society, including a Society review, two VTS
books, and an upgrade of the website. He was working on an additional
website project at the time of his death. While not afraid to speak his
mind (usually with a very pertinent point that changed the argument),
there was no nicer man to work with. A striking point of the memories
shared by Board members over the past few days was the common theme of
his courtesy—Dennis was always looking out for people and seeking
to help.
Last year, Dennis was awarded the Stu Meyer Memorial Award for those
'who have both served their Society and also have contributed to the
development of technology and science in an outstanding manner'.
There was no worthier candidate than Dennis. He will be missed. |
