At the ITS World Congress 2025, Atlanta was spotlighted as the first U.S. city to establish a “Day One Deployment District,” a milestone moment for the rollout of cellular V2X (C-V2X) technology in North America. Led by the 5GAA and supported by its Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communications Deployment Guide, this initiative sets a national benchmark for deploying connected vehicle infrastructure in real-world urban settings.
The Georgia Department of Transportation, in partnership with 5GAA members, demonstrated how C-V2X applications are delivering immediate public benefits: from faster emergency vehicle response to increased VRU safety, more efficient school bus and fleet management, and digitally enabled tolling and parking solutions.
This launch comes amid urgent calls to address road safety in the United States, where VRU fatalities remain alarmingly high and traffic congestion costs the economy more than US$36 billion annually. C-V2X, with a projected nationwide deployment cost of US$6.5 billion, promises a scalable and cost-effective solution for modernizing transportation infrastructure.
