The ride-hailing platform Uber is also in the business of robotaxis. It is already partnering with several robotaxi service companies since it is a market leader through its platform in the gig economy, connecting, for example, drivers with customers who want to have a taxi.
Uber recently partnered with Lucid Motors and Nuro AI to develop the next generation of autonomous robotaxis, as communicated in the joint press release. Lucid Motors is an electric car company based in the United States, and Nuro AI develops self-driving technology, i.e., the virtual driver. Uber will invest heavily in both Lucid and Nuro to launch what is dubbed as a premium robotaxi service.
The launch of this new service is said to take place somewhere in the United States next year. The date and location are not yet revealed.
