For the first time, the U.S. DOT and 5GAA members partnered to demonstrate the synergy between C-V2X direct and mobile network communications at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center in February 2025 [2]. The live demonstrations showcased the potential of connected vehicle technologies to improve road safety and efficiency.
Verizon realized real-time alerts for connected intersections and weather warnings, while Audi addressed cyclist safety using C-V2X direct communications. Autotalks demonstrated how C-V2X can prevent accidents by protecting cyclists outside intersections.
5GAA Chairman Christopher Voigt praised the U.S. DOT’s leadership in advancing V2X technology and underscored the importance of integrating direct and mobile communications for 360° awareness. The event also explored key drivers for deploying V2X technology, such as federal transportation funding and the National V2X Deployment Plan.
