While today, most of the GenAI applications run in powerful data centers on the cloud, there are different initiatives intended to enhance the computational capabilities of edge devices to better support this type of AI. In this line, Qualcomm Technologies announced on 23 October 2024 a collaboration with Mistral AI to bring new state-of-the-art GenAI models to devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, Snapdragon Cockpit Elite, and Snapdragon Ride Elite for automotive applications and the Snapdragon X Series Compute Platforms for AI personal computers (PCs).
These GenAI models are compact yet powerful and able to run within devices such as smartphones, vehicles, and PCs. Running GenAI on devices offers numerous benefits, including enhanced privacy, lower latency, reliability, cost savings, and energy efficiency.
