The Taiwan Railway Corporation (TRC, formerly Taiwan Railway Administration) held a ceremony to celebrate the delivery of the last of 50 new electrical multiunit (EMU)3000 intercity trains in Port of Hualien on 6 August 2024.
The EMU3000 fleet gradually replaces the aging Push-Pull fleet in TRC’s Eastern and Western Mainlines since their first delivery in July 2021 (see the September 2020 issue). With all 50 EMU3000 trains in operation, TRC is expected to increase long-distance service by 54%, and to improve service quality for passengers traveling to cities not conveniently served by Taiwan High Speed Rail.
Port of Hualien, Taiwan International Ports Corporation, cooperated with TRC to install a rail track of 415 m, in parallel with the pier and linking an existing branch line from Hualien Railway Station to the warehouse area of Hualien Harbor.
