Message from the EiC |
Happy new year! Welcome to the January 2021 issue of VTS Mobile World – your IEEE Vehicular Technology Society newsletter. Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, prosperous, and less physically distanced 2021.
In this issue, Society President Abbas Jamalipour gives a message about VTS in 2021. In addition, we announce the VTS BoG election results. And recently published papers from the IEEE Open Journal of Vehicular Technology, IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology are also included.
As always, I am always available to hear your feedback; just send me a note at Richard.Yu@ieee.org. Read More... |

Driving Simulation Technology |
Lucas Bruck, Bruce Haycock, and Ali Emadi |
Driving simulation has become a very useful tool for vehicle design and research in industry and educational institutes. This paper provides a review of driving simulator components, including the vehicle dynamics model, the motion system, and the virtual environment, and how they interact with the human perceptual system in order to create the illusion of the driving. Smart Vehicle-to-Everything Connected Powertrains |
Markus Eisenbarth, Marius Wegener, René Scheer, Jakob Andert, Dominik S. Buse, Florian Klingler, Christoph Sommer, Falko Dressler, Peter Reinold, and Rafael Gries |
In the context of increasing electrification and the automation of future mobility, research and development of efficient powertrains requires enhanced test methods. One important aspect to consider is the complex interactions among a smart driving strategy, traffic flow, an individual vehicle’s energy demand and emissions, and the corresponding overall values. Cooperative Perception Messages for CAVs |
Gokulnath Thandavarayan, Miguel Sepulcre, and Javier Gozalvez |
Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) utilize a variety of onboard sensors to sense their surrounding environment. CAVs can improve their perception capabilities if vehicles exchange information about what they sense using V2X communications. This is known as cooperative or collective perception (or sensing). A frequent transmission of collective perception messages could improve the perception capabilities of CAVs. Read More... |
