Announcing: Our First Workshop on Diversity, at VTC2019-Fall
Alexander M. Wyglinski, President

Diversity is one of the core strengths of VTS. Our great diversity enables us to bring together new insights and opportunities regarding emerging concepts in areas such as

  • Mobile radio
  • 5G
  • Connected vehicles
  • Electric railways
  • Motor vehicles
  • Autonomous vehicles

Sometimes we think of diversity within the context of whether a VTS member hails from industry, government, or academia, or if a VTS member comes from any one of the IEEE's ten regions from around the globe.

It is very important that we also think of diversity in terms of supporting our women members as well as members from other underrepresented groups within our community.

Although VTS has been very active in organizing events specifically designed to bring together members from around the world, and from different technical groups from within the VTS community, we haven’t had an event specifically for VTS women and underrepresented groups ... until now.

I am very excited to share with all of you the news of a workshop that will take place at our upcoming flagship conference, the 2019 IEEE 90th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2019-Fall), in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA during the latter part of September 2019.

Entitled "Enhancing Diversity in the Engineering World: Experience, Views, and Suggestions", this workshop is designed to bring together women and other individuals from minority groups from within our VTS community in a unique forum to share their experiences and insights with respect to their professional development and growth, as well as explore how to increase diversity across our international technical society.

Although the topic of this workshop is VTS diversity, and we expect that members of minority and underrepresented groups will attend and take part, I want to emphasize definitively that the target audience is ALL VTS members and VTC attendees.

We invite everyone to attend this very special and enriching event at VTC2019-Fall in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.  Excellent keynote speakers are lined up, and there will be several panel discussions and, of course, networking opportunities.  For the latest information and updates about this workshop, please visit the VTS diversity workshop page.

This event is made possible by a group of very dedicated, highly motivated volunteers and we truly owe them a huge debt of gratitude. These volunteers include several members of the recently formed VTS Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity:

  • Carmela Cozzo (chair)
  • Neeli Prasad
  • Lin Cai
  • Weihua Zhuang
  • Marina Aguado
  • Yue Wang
  • Sarah Kate Wilson

To learn more about the workshop, or to assist with the organization of this new event, please reach out to Carmela.

I look forward to seeing you all in Honolulu next month for this pioneering workshop, as well as at the many other activities, sessions, presentations, tutorials, and events designed to support your professional growth and enhance our global community at VTC2019-Fall!
