Over the past two months, there has been a significant increase in public interest and awareness of 5G—Fifth Generation cellular technology—and its potential impact across multiple sectors of our society, including commerce, education, health care, and agriculture.
For many of us who actively pursue research and development work in next generation communication systems and networks (MIMO, cognitive radio, millimeter wave, vehicular communications, Internet of Things, and numerous other relevant technologies), 5G is something that we are all aware of, given the plethora of impactful journal publications, conference papers, presentations, tutorials, and other activities focusing on this subject over the past decade.
On the other hand, the recent advent of 5G into the global public consciousness, especially via mainstream media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, has put this diverse collection of cutting-edge technologies and its impact on humanity on center stage. As a result, these are exciting times to work in the 5G and future networks domain!
With the aim of supporting worldwide interest in 5G technologies and future networks, IEEE VTS has been working with the IEEE Future Networks Initiative (IEEE FNI) to provide an excellent suite of resources offering the latest insights and knowledge about advances in future networks and 5G technologies. Here are just a few of the many resources available from IEEE VTS:
