 The new V/Line timetable, which went into service on 27 August 2017, substantially increased the commuter rail service in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
The new timetable added 151 new weekly train services to the regional network, boosting both weekday and weekend services, giving more choices to travelers on the Geelong, Ballarat, Ararat, Bendigo, Seymour, Shepparton, and Traralgon lines.
The Bendigo and Ballarat lines each received 18 more weekly services, both on weeknights and weekends. This improved the weekend frequency of trains and decreased the wait from approximately 90 min to only 60 min during the day.
The Geelong corridor received 74 extra services each week, including 30 new weekend services, and it improved the frequency of weekend trains between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. from approximately 60 to 40 min.
None of the eight weekday Warrnambool services stop at Tarneit or Wyndham Vale, and seven services run express through North Geelong and Lara, with 30 new Geelong-line services now stopping at Warrnambool’s previous stops. The new timetable also runs an extra 18 trains every week on the Gippsland line and provides 41 more service stops at Richmond Station, allowing easier access to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and to other events.
The Ararat line benefits from the extension of 19 weekly Ballarat and Wendouree services, including three extra weekday services and a return service each Saturday and Sunday. A service to and from Seymour and Shepparton was also added on Saturdays and Sundays. Changes to the stopping patterns of off-peak Geelong and Ballarat trains means Deer Park passengers get 219 more weekly services and 88 more trains stop at Caroline Springs.
