IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine: Special Issue on 5G Technologies and Applications

From spectrum extensions using new radio (NR) technologies and multi-interface access points to network softwarization driven by network function virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN), the 5G communications continue to emerge through evolved technologies and new models of cellular operations.

Those changes in network architecture and data management will improve the resource availability and system scalability for future 5G networks. Considering a technology road-map for development, the IEEE 5G Initiative Series will be publishing articles on the state-of-the-art research material that are tutorial presented in a tutorial or survey style but also coveys new concepts and results to mark the milestones of 5G evolution.

The selected articles will cover a wide range of topics in general issues and feature topics in special issues to help readers and experts to get through understanding of 5G end-to-end communication features. Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Targeted and localized resource allocations
  • Coexistence of unlicensed spectrum users
  • Interoperability between licensed and unlicensed bands
  • Control schemes for time alignment in dual transmission
  • Dense small cell deployments for edge device connectivity
  • Resource allocations for dual/multi-connectivity schemes
  • Millimetre wave band and massive MIMO
  • Distributed antenna system
  • Next generation core network and topology managements
  • Network function virtualization
  • Software defined networking
  • IP services over RAT such as VoLTE, VoWiFi, and IMS
  • Use cases for integrating LTE-LAA and grid networks
  • Wireless Communication access for grid modernization
  • Distributed system communication infrastructure
  • Network stability, control and optimization
  • Integration of various services and tools
  • Connected vehicles and remote data access
  • Data centres and load provisioning
  • Performance evaluation of testbeds and trials
  • Internet of Things (IoT) related load management
  • Standardization activities by IEEE, 3GPP and ETSI

Authors should submit their manuscripts following the IEEE VTM guidelines

Authors should submit a PDF version of their complete manuscripts to the Manuscript Central submission site.
