A month has now passed since the conclusion of the 2016 IEEE 84th Vehicular Technology Conference, which took place in Montréal this past September. The event was a gathering of more than 500 researchers, around the theme A Connected World at Your Fingertips. The conference program offered a diverse set of networking and knowledge sharing opportunities, with 7 tutorials, 5 specialized, themed workshops, more than 70 regular paper sessions, world-class keynotes speeches and an industry track. The latter was a conference-long track, and saw a succession of more than 50 industry specialists participate in sessions and panels related to the deployment of 5G, its use in many applications, but in particular IoT and vehicular networks, and smart cities and urban mobility.

Thought-provoking keynotes also brought the audience to the heart of upcoming 5G deployments, including presentations from industry leaders Ericsson and Huawei, but also projected them beyond 5G, in the intriguing cellular communications beyond 2020…
As is now a tradition in its fall edition, VTC took the opportunity to recognize prominent VTS members for their achievements, with best paper awards, personal achievement awards and service awards. The award ceremony culminated with the induction of Professor Claude Berrou into the IEEE VTS Hall of Fame.
Also for this edition of VTC, a special event was hosted in cooperation with the IEEE Montréal Section and IEEE Young Professionals, on publishing tools and tips for young professionals. This event took advantage of the presence of many Editors-in-Chief and Associate Editors of IEEE periodicals to produce a session specifically dedicated to helping Young Professionals successfully publish their work in IEEE venues.
If you missed the event, stay tuned as, in the coming weeks, we will post some of the highlights of the talks at the VTS Resource Center, the new VTS online repository of presentations and recordings in the VTS technology space! |
