The Sweden chapter of VTS is actually a joint chapter with
two other societies (Information Theory and Communications). Despite the very
large territory it covers, this chapter has a very active program and caters to
the needs of several hundred IEEE members throughout Sweden.
Tommy Svensson, from Chalmers University, is the chapter
chair and Elisabeth Uhlemann, who our VTS members know through her regular
column as Connected Vehicles Senior Editor in the Vehicular Technology
Magazine, is vice-chair of the chapter, and liaises with VTS.
In addition to many technical seminars each year, the Sweden
chapter organizes two yearly workshops: the Swedish Communication Technologies
workshops (since 2011) and the Wireless Vehicular Communications workshop
(since 2010).
To promote the visibility of young talented researchers, the
Sweden chapter has initiated two annual best paper awards for young researchers
in Sweden: the IEEE Sweden VT-COM-IT Joint Chapter Best Student Journal Paper
Award, and the IEEE Sweden VTCOM-IT Joint Chapter Best Student Conference Paper
Award.
The high level of activity of the chapter has been
recognized by several awards, most recently through the IEEE COMSOC Chapter
Achievement Award (2015) and the IEEE Region 8 Chapter of the Year Award (2015,
Large chapter category).
The leaders of the Sweden chapter attribute their success in
part to the composition of their board, which is comprised of very committed
persons whose expertise span the technical/scientific areas of VTS, ComSoc and
Information Theory Society; with experience in both academia and industry; in a
combination of senior and younger professionals; as well as a wide geographical
span within Sweden. |
