IEEE VTS and IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) are collaborating
on a new publication, the IEEE Communications Standards Magazine. This new magazine grows out of the existing standards supplement of the IEEE Communications Magazine, http://www.comsoc.org/commag/cfp/communications-standards-supplement. Standards are vital in the communications area, and the IEEE Communications Standards Magazine will be a platform for presenting and discussing a broad variety of standards-related topics, ranging from communication and networking standards themselves, to the role of standards in technical innovation in communications, and will include the effect of intellectual property on communication technology standardization, and research on standardization methodologies in communications. Contributions are encouraged from areas and disciplines that impact the development, adoption, and impact of communications standards on industry and society, such as standards development processes, economics of standards, and the role of national and international policies and regulations on standardization.
Management of the publication will be undertaken by ComSoc supported by a Steering Committee with ComSoc and VTS representatives. The Steering Committee is comprised of Steve Gorshe (chair), Andrzej Jajszczyk, Alex Gelman, Osman Gebizlioglu, and James Irvine, along with ComSoc Director of Magazines Raouf Boutaba as a non-voting member. One of the first tasks of the Steering Committee will be to select an Editor-in-Chief. The committee will submit a recommendation to the ComSoc President, and in consultation with VTS President, will make the appointment. The selected candidate is expected to assume the roles and responsibilities of Editor-in-Chief including selection of associate editors, governance of the editorial board, and overall adherence to basic standards of the magazine. The EiC will serve a two-year term, with an optional extension of one year. Further enquiries and nominations (including a CV) should be sent to Steve Gorshe at steve.gorshe@microsemi.com in the first instance.
