It is a great honor and privilege to serve as
the 2016 President of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society. We are a diverse
applications oriented society with interests in motor vehicles, mobile radio
and land transportation. Our unique profile places VTS in a privileged position
to serve the technical community and lead the development of connected
vehicles. VTS has started a series of actions in this domain like the new
connected vehicles series in our transactions, or a new column and section on
connected vehicles in our magazine. We are actively working in launching more
activities in connected vehicles, and we will keep you regularly updated on
their progress. Actually, one of our key objectives for 2016 is to improve our
communications to members, and our monthly e-newsletter is going to be an
important mechanism to do so but not the only. The Society is working on a new
website, an active participation in social media, and the creation of a
multimedia platform, all of which should be active during the first half of
2016.
The value of a Society like VTS is directly
related to the activities and contributions we generate, the value we provide
to our members, and the participation and engagement of our members. Some
members have expressed in our 2015 members’ survey their interests to actively
contribute in the Society activities, or their wish for more activities to be
developed in their field of interests. I would like to encourage you to get
involved with the Society and take a pro-active role in helping VTS develop new
content and activities to serve the needs of our members. You can find on the
volunteering section of our website open volunteer positions. Also, don’t
hesitate to contact me for feedback and suggestions that can help VTS better
serve our members and the technical community in our three fields of interests.
I would like to conclude my
first message as VTS President informing you that VTS is undergoing its five
year society review at next TAB meeting in February 2016 in San Diego. I would
like to take this opportunity to thank all volunteers in leadership positions
within the Society who have actively contributed towards the preparation of
such review process. We will keep you updated on the outcome and the
recommendations VTS receives. |
