With
over 300 technical presentations, the Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference
is the main global technical event for vehicle power and propulsion systems.
The conference allows a format for the discussion of ideas in the fields of
sustainable transportation systems, electric, hybrid electric and plug in
hybrid electric vehicles. Also included in the discussion are air, space, sea
and undersea vehicles. The conference spans 4 days this year including a
public/media night, free to the masses.
Jointly
sponsored by the IEEE Power Electronics Society and Vehicular Technology
Society, the VPPC will be held in Downtown Chicago at the JW Marriot
Hotel, located at 151 West Adams, right in the heart of downtown.
The
organizing Committee has been working hard to develop an impressive technical
program with excellent networking opportunities. Their hope is that you enjoy
the world-class, vibrant and multi-cultural city while you are in town. With
magnificent architecture and numerous cultural activities, the VPPC '11 offers
a rare opportunity to see all that Chicago has to offer. World class
restaurants, theaters, museums, shopping centers, sports teams and much more
await. We are confident that your stay in Chicago will be unforgettable.
Dr.
Ali Emadi Chairs the VPPC once again and feels that, "the biggest
challenge, and at the same time biggest opportunity, of our time is in the area
of energy and sustainability. Transportation is at the center of this challenge
and electrification of vehicles is the best sustainable solution to move
forward."
Dr.
Emadi received his B.S. (1995) and M.S. (1997) degrees in electrical
engineering with highest distinction from Sharif University of Technology,
Tehran, Iran. He then received his Ph.D. degree (2000) in electrical
engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, TX. He is currently
the Harris Perlstein Endowed Chair Professor of Engineering and the Director of
the Electric Power and Power Electronics Center and Grainger Laboratories at
Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago. Here he has established
research and teaching facilities as well as courses in power electronics, motor
drives and vehicular power systems.
As
General Chair of the 1st IEEE Vehicle and Power Propulsion Conference (VPPC
'05), Dr. Emadi's goal remains to, "educate the public, train the
students, engineers and scientists while developing cost-effective,
commercially viable and environmentally friendly products."
