Hosted by Ricardo de Castro, VTS VP—Motor Vehicles, and in partnership with IEEE Future Directions, VTS brings you an exciting new webinar:
Accelerating Connected Mobility: Validating V2X Use Cases in the IEEE 5G/6G Innovation Testbed
As the automotive industry evolves toward fully autonomous and connected vehicles, the requirement for Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC) has never been more critical. Testing these scenarios in the real world is costly and complex, but the IEEE 5G/6G Innovation Testbed offers a scalable, cloud-based environment to validate V2X applications before they hit the road.
In this webinar, staff and volunteers from the IEEE Testbed team will provide an overview of the platform and the impetus behind it, explain the Testbed’s relevance to VTS and the VTS field of interest, and demonstrate technically how to leverage the Testbed to simulate rigorous vehicular environments and lead to proof of concept validations.
We will explore the following use cases in the testbed:
- Deploying Network Slices: Create dedicated logical networks customized for V2X traffic by configuring specific slices (eMBB vs URLLC) to prioritize V2X communication and ensure that mission-critical data is isolated from high-bandwidth entertainment data flows.
- Emulating Road Traffic: Tools like SUMO (Simulation of Urban MObility) and TraCI (Traffic Control Interface) generate road traffic.
- Edge Integration: Emulate Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) architectures to deploy V2X applications and 5G network functions at the network edge for improved latency values.
- Performance Verification: Utilizing Traffic Control (TC) and Iperf3, the platform emulates Wide Area Network (WAN) impairments—including delay, corruption, and reordering—to replicate the volatile connectivity of high-speed mobility while benchmarking per-slice throughput and latency.
