The workshop began with a welcome and opening remarks by IEEE Toronto Section Vice-chair and VTS Toronto Chapter Chair Lian Zhao, VTS Education Committee Chair Ping Wang, and VTS YP Committee Chair Taimoor Abbas. Following the opening plenary were two keynote talks by Wen Tong (Huawei) and Shahrokh Valaee (University of Toronto), an industry panel (representing Telus, Ericsson, General Motors, and InterDigital), YP presentations, and project demonstrations.
The workshop provided a collegial environment for networking, learning, and collaboration. Over 90 attendees—from TMU, York University, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, Carleton University, Algoma University, Royal Military College of Canada, Wilfrid Laurier University, and IEEE YPs—engaged with the industry experts and academic leaders. Closing remarks were given by ComSoc President Sherman Shen, IEEE Canada YP Committee Coordinator Raghav Thanigaivel, and former IEEE Toronto Section Chair Xavier Fernando.
The awards that were presented at this event served to recognize and celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams who had demonstrated outstanding performance and innovation. By highlighting their accomplishments, the organizers not only motivated recipients but also inspired other participants to strive for excellence in their own endeavors.
In addition, the incorporation of free lunch, refreshments, and lucky draws added elements of excitement and anticipation to the event. It created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere conducive to learning and networking, adding a fun and engaging dimension to their participation. |
