As reported on 27 July 2021, Verizon and Samsung Electronics completed an end-to-end, fully virtualized 5G data session using C-band spectrum on a live network.
The milestone was reached in preparation for an upcoming 5G ultrawideband expansion using Verizon�s newly acquired C-band spectrum.
The trials, conducted on Verizon�s network (using C-band special temporary authority granted by the US Federal Communications Commission) in Texas, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, used Samsung�s virtualized radio access network (vRAN), which is built on its own software stack, and C-band 64T64R massive multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) radio in coordination with Verizon�s virtualized core.
