Zero-Sum and Toyota InfoTechnology conducted a demonstration
experiment showcasing an emergency vehicle priority system that uses an
international vehicle-to-everything (V2X) standard originating from Japan based
on the ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) band.
This demonstration
aimed at addressing and solving one of the most important challenges faced
today by emergency vehicles such as ambulances: reaching their destination in
the quickest time possible, which is sometimes not feasible because of traffic
congestion.
This technology
prompts traffic information boards installed on the road to display information
about an approaching emergency vehicle.
Upon detection of an emergency
vehicle, the display boards inform motorists on the road to make way for the
priority passage of the emergency vehicle, thereby enabling it to have free
passage and safely reduce the travel time to its destination.
