With the start of a new year, there is much to be looking forward to in 2019. This is especially true with respect to the activities and services offered by IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) in support of your professional development growth!
In this message, I would like to share with you several of these exciting VTS activities and services so that you can explore these opportunities in order to engage, learn, and grow:
- Conferences: This year we will host an array of high impact international and regional conferences, covering a breadth of vehicular technology topics. These events include our flagship conferences, the 2019 IEEE 89th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2019-Spring) in Kuala Lumpur and the 2019 IEEE 90th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2019-Fall) in Honolulu, Hawaii, as well as the 2019 IEEE Vehicular Power and Propulsion Conference (IEEE VPPC2019) in Hanoi, Vietnam and the Joint Rail Conference (JRC) in Snowbird, Utah.
- Publications: Continuing the tradition of excellence in disseminating high quality publications to the global research community, VTS operates several top tier peer-reviewed publications that circulate the latest cutting-edge advances in vehicular technology. These publications include our renowned IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (Impact Factor =4.432) and the IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine (Impact Factor = 6.038).
- Online Resources: VTS continues to add great new content to its Vehicular Technology Society Resource Center, an extensive database of presentations, lectures, and talks related to a range of vehicular technology topics. VTS members can learn more about topics such as connected vehicular technology, vehicular propulsion systems, and IoT-based railway networks.
- Chapters: There are over 50 local VTS chapters worldwide, with each chapter supporting the professional development and growth of its VTS members with activities such as invited speakers, workshops, tutorials, and networking events. An exclusive benefit of being part of a VTS chapter is obtaining access to our premier Distinguished Lecture program, which consists of world renowned experts giving presentations on cutting edge topics in vehicular technology.
- Awards and Scholarships: Recognizing the achievements of our members within the VTS community is very important, whether it is an established individual with many decades of experience or a young professional/student just at the start of his/her career. VTS sponsors a range of awards to acknowledge the accomplishments and/or potential of our members across different areas in vehicular technology.
In addition to these services and activities, VTS is very active in supporting its young professional members and female members by organizing events such as panel discussions, workshops, and invited speaker luncheons; definitely stay tuned for announcements of these events in 2019!
Furthermore, consider attending the workshops, tutorials, and lectures put together by our VTS technical committees such as those in propagation, land mobile radio, autonomous vehicles, drones, and electric railway systems. Finally, find out the latest advances and insights from industry leaders within the VTS community by attending one of our industry programs at an upcoming VTC conference.
In order to help organize these activities, events, and services, we have an amazing VTS team for 2019 consisting of a dedicated and hardworking group of volunteers. These volunteers are focused on providing all of you with the services needed in order to keep you current with the cutting edge in vehicular technology, enabling you all to grow professionally via networking opportunities, and expand your knowledge base in mobile radio, land transportation, electric vehicles, and many others areas related to vehicular technology.
