The 2017 IEEE 85th Vehicular Technology Conference took place
at Darling Harbor, in Sydney, Australia on 4–7 June 2017. The event
was a gathering of over 600 researchers, around the theme “Light up
Vehicular Innovation”. VTC2017-Spring coincided with Vivid Sydney—
the world's largest festival of light, music and ideas.
The conference program offered a diverse set of
networking and knowledge sharing opportunities, with 6 tutorials, 8
specialized, themed workshops, 69 technical sessions, 6 world-class keynotes
speeches and three industry tracks. Three major areas were covered:
“5G and Wireless”, “Smart Transport and Logistics”
and “IoT/Smart Cities” with each track running one full day.
The industry tracks included more than 25 industry speakers contributing to
inspiring sessions and lively panel discussions.
VTC2017-Spring featured inspiring keynotes from
distinguished speakers from leading telecom operators, equipment

latest standards developments.
The workshops held on Sunday 4 June 2017 attracted a
large number of participants both from workshops organisers and their
respective authors and speakers as well as from the main conference. The
topics of the workshops were of interest to academia and industry alike,
and made this workshop program a truly memorable event.
In total, one half-day and seven full-day workshops
were provided. These workshops complemented the conference theme with
up-to-date topics relevant to the current industrial efforts in
developing technologies for 5G, smart cities, and intelligent
