Alexander M. Wyglinski (S’99, M’05, SM’11) is currently the Executive Vice-President and an elected BoG member of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS). He is an internationally recognized expert in the fields of wireless communications, cognitive radio, connected vehicles, software-defined radio prototyping, dynamic spectrum access, vehicular technology, 5G communications, automotive cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, and cyber-physical systems
Dr. Wyglinski is Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Associate Professor of Robotics Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA, USA, as well as Director of the Wireless Innovation Laboratory (WI Lab). Dr. Wyglinski received his Ph.D and B.Eng. degrees in 2005 and 1999 from McGill University in Electrical Engineering, and his M.Sc.(Eng.) degree in 2000 from Queen’s University in Kingston in Electrical Engineering.
Dr. Wyglinski is very active in the technical community, serving on the organizing committees of numerous technical conferences and several journal editorial boards. These activities include General Co-chair for the 2015 82nd IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (IEEE VTC2015-Fall) in Boston, MA, USA.
Dr. Wyglinski's editorial board commitments include or have included the IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, and IEEE Transactions on Communications. Dr. Wyglinski has served the VTS as its Chapters Committee Chair during 2014, and as its Vice-President Membership during 2015.
Since 2016, Dr. Wyglinski has served VTS as Executive Vice-President, developing and implementing new initiatives and programs that further enhance the value of VTS membership and services. In particular, Dr. Wyglinski has initiated activities in the areas of automotive vehicles (e.g., two summer schools and an online series of lectures on this emerging topic) and automotive security security (i.e., two workshops and a special issue in IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine).
In addition to his duties as an elected Board of Governors member, Dr. Wyglinski has been a VTS Distinguished Lecturer since 2014, presenting seminars on the latest in cognitive radio, software defined radio, and connected vehicles across multiple VTS chapters around the world.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Wyglinski has published approximately 40 journal papers, over 80 conference papers, nine book chapters, and two textbooks (he is currently working on a second edition for one of his textbooks, and is simultaneously writing a third textbook). He is currently being or has been sponsored by organizations such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Naval Research Laboratory, the MITRE Corporation, the Office of Naval Research, the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate, The MathWorks, Toyota InfoTechnology Center U.S.A., Raytheon, Orb Analytics, Coherent Logix, and the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Wyglinski is a Senior Member of the IEEE, as well as a member of Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu, and the ASEE. |
