Dr. Onur Altintas is a Fellow at
the Network Division of Toyota InfoTechnology Center, USA, Inc., in Mountain
View, California. From 1999 to 2001 he was with Toyota Motor Corporation and
was also a visiting researcher at Telcordia Technologies. From 2001 to 2004 he
was with Toyota InfoTechnology Center USA. Before joining Toyota Motor
Corporation in 1999, he was a research scientist at Ultra High Speed
Network and Computer Technology Labs (UNCL), Tokyo.
Dr. Altintas received his B.S. and
M.S. degrees from Orta Dogu Teknik Universitesi, Ankara, Turkey, and his Ph.D. from
the University of Tokyo, Japan; all in electrical engineering. He is Co-founder
of the IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference (IEEE VNC), and has served as General
Co-chair since 2009. He serves as an associate editor for IEEE ITS Magazine,
and is on the editorial board of Connected Vehicles Series of IEEE Transactions
on Vehicular Technology. He also served as a guest editor for a special issue
on Vehicular Communications for IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine (2009)
and EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking (2009) and as
Track Chair of the Vehicular Electronics and Telematics track for several VTCs.
His current research interests are connected and automated vehicles, as well as
non-traditional ways of using vehicle resources as part of the information and
communications infrastructure. Dr. Altintas is an IEEE VTS Distinguished
Speaker.
As an active participant, presenter
and organizer of the conferences in the area of vehicular networking throughout
the years, Dr. Altintas has worked to bridge the points of view of industry ane
the research community in this flourishing area. He brings an industry
perspective to the areas of connected vehicle and automated driving, and
promotes new activities of the Society in these directions. |
